Community Land Trusts (CLTs) promote the building of homes upon which land that is secured in perpetuity at nominal rent, thereby also reducing the costs of homes.

Early in 2010 Dr Stuart Burgess of the Commission for Rural Communities released a report  that supports the provision of affordable homes for every rural town, also mentions the opportunity in the CLT mechanism.
