Ergohome hosts Chinese visit

The China Building Materials Academy tours Ergohome's site

A large group of Chinese professionals made a specific visit to Birmingham and the Ergohome test site to see for themselves our low-carbon design leadership. Ergohome is arguably the largest and most advanced SIPs factory-built home in the world.

China wakes-up to low-carbon development

The Chinese manufacturing economy is the global leader in solar panel production and quickly accelerating capacity in other technologies such as wind turbine and heat pumps. A growing and wealthy middle class in China are demanding improved, individualised housing and of course energy efficient and low environmental impact solutions. The Central Government is working towards international carbon reduction commitments and recognises the important role of modern building fabrics.

CBMA impressed by Ergohome technologies

China Building Materials Academy (CBMA), founded in 1950, is the largest comprehensive research organization in China in the field of building materials. The CBMA fulfils aspects of the UK BSI and BRE institutions. CBMA visitors saw for their own eyes the structural and thermal innovations within the fabric of the home. They also recognised advanced built-in technologies such as electric windows, MVHR and a services dashboard. Just as important they appreciated the ergonomic packaging and appealing consumer features such as a television in the bathroom and wireless & remote controls.

A wide visitor demographic and interest in SIPs

Delegates represented a wide Chinese geography, including: Beijing, Nanjing, Zhuhai, Guangzhou and Huabei. For many visitors it was their first exposure to insulated panels, in recent times concrete has been the default building material but new pressures including thermal insulation are re-directing the materials academy focus.
